    When and where will the result be known?

    The organiser of AWSC 2029 will be announced during the FIS annual congress on June 4, in Reykjavík (Iceland).

    What are the Alpine World Ski Championships?

    The Alpine World Ski Championships represent the highest alpine ski competition at an international level. Its origins go back to 1931 when the Swiss station of Mürren hosted the first event.

    Since 1982, this competition has been celebrated every odd year and brings together the 7 alpine ski disciplines in 13 different races for 15 days.


    The most prestigious stations in the world such as Garmisch (GER), Schladming (AUT), Beaver Creek/Vail (US), St. Moritz (SUI), Åre (SE), Cortina d’Ampezzo (ITA) or Courchevel-Méribel (FRA), have been at the epicentre of the latest championships.

    All of them are stations with a great reputation and an extensive track record in sporting events.

    When would the Andorra 2029 Alpine World Ski Championships take place?
    In the case of winning the candidature, the Alpine World Ski Championships Andorra 2029 would be held during the first fortnight of February 2029. The epicentre of the sports would take place in the Soldeu i El Tarter sectors, in the ski area of Grandvalira. The entire leisure and activities programme related to the event would be carried out in different locations in our country, mainly in the capital.

    What are the aims of Andorra 2029?

    The Andorra 2029 project works on objectives in different areas:

    • Globally, taking the UN 2030 agenda as a reference.
    • In terms of the country, working to contribute positively in establishing new bases for national development in the medium and long term.
    • Focusing on people, in order to offer them the best possible experience.
    • Social commitment, progressively removing barriers, and promoting cohesion and inclusion.
    • Showing the value of the snow sector. We are a country of snow and we will work to encourage the practice of this sport with all its associated health benefits and the values represented by practising sport in general.
    • Brand positioning: We will join with current efforts in terms of communication to make our snowfields, Andorra, and the Pyrenees region in the 'Top of Mind' internationally.

    How many countries/skiers take part in the Alpine World Ski Championships?
    The Alpine World Ski Championships bring together more than 750 athletes from around the world from more than 70 different countries. In this type of competition, no more than 24 competitors can participate with a maximum of 14 skiers of either gender. All countries that have professional skiers who meet the FIS point requirements set out in their official regulations, may participate in this type of competition.

    How many people are involved in holding an event like this?
    The Alpine World Ski Championships bring together more than 750 athletes from around the world from more than 70 different countries. More than 500 volunteers are involved in its organization to make this possible. More than 1,000 accredited journalists cover the event and the live broadcast in more than 100 TV.
