Pal Arinsal will host the qualifying races for the Andorra 2027 Alpine World Ski Championships
In the event that the Principality is the chosen venue for the world championships, the Joan Carchat stadium and the Font Roja course will hold the preliminary races for the Giant Slalom, Slalom, and Parallel and training sessions, respectively

Andorra la Vella, Tuesday 22 February 2022.

Pal Arinsal joins the candidacy for the Andorra 2027 Alpine World Ski Championships. The resort in La Massana will host the qualifying races prior to the world championships if the Principality is chosen as the venue. The general director of the project, David Hidalgo, gave details about the decision this morning, explaining that the best track for holding the qualifying races for the Slalom, Giant Slalom, and Parallel is the Joan Carchat stadium, with the Font Roja course to be used for training. The sporting action is to be moved away from the usual scene of the World Cup slopes, Avet and Àliga, and will coexist with the preliminary races on the courses of the Coll de la Botella area. The leading representative of the project stressed that the resort located in La Massana will have a specialized technical team as organizer of the races.

For his part, the general manager of Pal Arinsal, Josep Marticella, stated that it is “a great honour to be part of an event of this magnitude. It is the culmination of many years of work and great effort put into high-level events in other sports.” Marticella explained that the Joan Carchat stadium and the Font Roja course meet the technical requirements of the FIS for hosting qualifying rounds with a northeast orientation and the necessary gradient. As such, he commented that in order to hold the event it will be necessary to invest in improving the snow-making network and installing fibre optics, among others.

In turn, the senior consul of La Massana, Olga Molné, viewed the new alliance with satisfaction, a “project for the whole country with great international projection for Andorra which, moreover, will have a positive effect on the parish, since a part of the sporting family will stay in La Massana and will therefore have a direct impact on business.”

The senior consul of Canillo, Francisco Camp, recalled that the Andorra 2027 candidacy is “a project for the whole country, which is a differential feature for convincing the members of the FIS who will determine the chosen venue.” Camp emphasized that the event will have two sporting venues, in Canillo and La Massana, with the most competitive action moving to the capital.

The Technical Office of the Andorra 2027 bid has worked on a proposal for the timetable in which the event would take place from 1 to 14 February, with an opening ceremony on 1 February and a closing ceremony on 14 February.

The championships races would be held in the usual venues for the World Cups. On the one hand, the Avet course in Soldeu would host the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom, and on the other, the emblematic Àliga course in El Tarter would hold the downhill and super-g events. The training sessions and warm-ups for the technical races would take place on the Eslàlom and Torrallardona courses in Soldeu, and on the Esparver and Miquel Baró courses in El Tarter in the case of the speed races.
